1. Technically, this picture was taken in high depth of field and a normal shutter speed. The mood of this picture is lonely and depressing. By taking this picture in high depth of field, you can see that the girl is alone which creates the mood. She isn't moving, so the shutter speed doesn't really contribute to the mood. Technically, the picture is very dark and has lots of shadows. Darkness is a symbol of depression. The photographer trying to tell a story of a girl who maybe was abandoned or excluded often. The body position of the girl with her head resting on her hand makes the observer believe that she is thinking or pondering. If her thoughts and worries are so heavy, the photographer may be using a metaphor of her holding her head because there is so much "weight on her shoulders" or her thoughts are so heavy. The fact that she is looking down shows her thoughts are sad, because humans put their head down when they are down. If her head was looking up, she would more likely be wondering nice thoughts. Inside of me, Pity is evoked. I feel bad for the girl that she is worrying. I also feel bad that she has to worry alone, rather than with a friend or someone else. The angle of the photo is straight which puts more focus on the girl, therefore the photographer must have wanted all attention on her. The emphasis in on her, which is a principle of design. The bars of the railing make a smooth rhythm. The railings create the feeling that she is trapped. Obviously there are a lot of lines because of the railing, but also the wall behind her, which is a element of design. The texture of the building is old, worn down, and disintegrating, which helps the depressing mood. There is a lot of space behind her which is filled with different values of blackness. The photographer definitely made the photo black and white to help the mood.

2. Technically, this photo is taken in high depth of field. SHe seems to be in a desert and as you go father back into the picture, the surrounding becomes blurrier. I think the photographer purposely changed his focus so that the woman and baby are the main focus in the picture. The desert sets a desperate mood. Deserts are usually dry, lonely, somewhere you wouldn't want to be. This woman's face seems desperate, like she needs help. She looks sad and worried. She is holding the baby almost away from the camera, showing fear. The baby seems desperate also. Her arm is holding her head and closing her eyes as if she is in pain. The baby isn't wearing shoes which provokes curiosity in the viewer. I think the photographer is telling a story of a mother in need of help. Not to save herself, but to save her child. Pity again is evoked in me, but much more curiosity is evoked. I'm wondering why they are in the desert? Why is the baby shoeless? What is wrong with the baby that makes him look in pain? The picture makes me want to help these people. There is full emphasis on the child and her mother. They are the largest and more clear thing in the picture, almost right in the center of the shot. There is unity shown because the mother is holding her hands and holding the baby so close. There is movement in the woman's hair, so the shot must have been taken in low shutter speed to capture the hair flying in the wind. There is a lot of form in the picture between the different shapes of both humans. There is a lot of space behind them which creates the idea that they are alone. The texture of the woman's skin is wrinkled which is a sign of stress and hardship. The angle is great because the desert in the back makes a straight line.

3. Technically, this photo is taken in very high depth of field. You can see far down the street and into the city. It was shot in high shutter speed to capture the movement of the boys walking across the street. It was shot from a higher view which makes the view believe they are the bigger person in this photo, like they watch over or control this block. The mood of the image is pretty happy. The boys seem to be friends who are probably going somewhere together. They are j-walking which means they are comfortable on these streets. They must be home or are here frequently. The story I think the author is trying to portray is boys just being boys on a casual weekend. They seems to be wearing basketball shorts so maybe they're going to play basketball. A friendly emotion is evoked inside of me. I want to join the boys if they are going to play basketball. The photographer kept the picture in color because the colors are bright and happy. There are a few bold colors, like red and green and the yellow street lines. They create contrast against some of the duller colors like the cement grey and sky white. A rhythm is created with the cite lights because the continue down the street in parallel lines. There is an uneven balance in the picture because there is more left side of the street than there is right. Maybe the author did this top create curiosity to what is on the other side of the street that the boys are going to. The sky creates a lot of negative space but shows the view of the street. Many lines are created on the street from new pavement, which creates a worn in and homey feeling.

4. Technically, this shot was taken in low depth of field. It seems to be a studio shot because the background is set as white and plain. I think was technically done this way to put the focus on her personality. The viewer is wondering about this woman and what makes her so special to be taken a picture of. The mood is curious and pleasing. She is sorta smiling, but it is arguable that she isn't, that she is showing a different mood. Her eyes look disappointed, but her mouth is curved like a smile. The viewer is curious about what she is thinking about. Especially what she is looking at. The photographer had her look away to make us curious. I think the story is that this woman is looking at someone she loves. Sometimes when we look at someone we love, all types of emotions can happen at once. I think someone is teasing her or made a little mean joke, so she is looking at them with disapproval yet still wanting to laugh. I feel amused by the old woman. She seems happy, so I feel happy too. Although I do wish I knew what she was looking at. The photographer made her directly in the middle of the shot to show the focus on her face. There is a balance of space on both sides of her head. There is a clear cut contrast between her and black shirt. The collar on her shirt creates a classy feeling, which is also shown by the black and white which are professional colors to wear. I think the photographer made the actual photo black and white because the focus is her personality, not her looks and if there was color in her face or clothes, the viewer would be distracted. There are lots of lines and texture on her face because of wrinkles. There is movement in her eyes by looking away. It is nicely lit because there is a unity of light on her face, and less light on her body.

5. Technically, there is a lot going on in the picture. It is taken is low depth of field, the picture ends at the wall which isn't far from the camera. There is no movement in this picture, both people seems to be staying in there position and based on their body posture, those are two stances we automatically assume someone is resting in. When your arms are crossed in front of you, we assume we are studying something, which takes time and a steady position. The man laying down seems to be sleeping, or dead, which are both movement-less. Technically the photo was taken darker to create a creepy and scary mood. The mood of the image is creepy because the man laying down almost looks dead. He is naked and only has a blanket on, which would make sense if he was dead. The bed he is laying on is not actually a nice soft bed, but looked like a hard table. I feel worried that this man is going to wake up and do something scary. I feel like this scene is from a scary movie, it tells a scary story. It seems like the man standing up is a doctor by the way he is studying this man, as if he was a patient. Judging by his clothes, he is not a doctor, so why is he staring at this dead or sleeping man? This image evokes so much curiosity in my mind. I wonder where they are, is the man laying down okay, what is the relationship between the two men, why is he naked, why is the bed so hard, is that even a bed, etc. The photographer made the picture black and white because it sets a more depressing mood. Also if the color of the man laying down's skin was showing, it could hint if the man is alive or sick. The photographer probably wants the viewer to wonder. There is a lot of contrast between the man standing in completely dark clothing against the light wall. There is value between the different colors of gray in the image. The darker the gray, the more mysterious. There is form in the two people. The viewer can image how the blanket feels because it creates a texture from the light shining down and making shadows. All the space on the wall makes the image have a lonely mood. Like that place isn't somewhere you want to be. The space between the two men sets a barrier also which could represent a barrier in their relationship.
